How It Works

RinkWire turns league scores into context: who is strong, who is moving, and which games matter. The goal is not to bury users in math. The goal is to make youth and high school hockey easier to understand.

Example

SJ Jr Sharks

RW Power Index: 92

Form Index: W-W-W-L-W

SOS: 8.2

Goal Impact: +18

This team ranks high because they are winning consistently, against strong opponents, and by meaningful margins.

Core Metrics

RW Power Index

The primary team strength rating. It blends results, opponent strength, goal impact, and recent form into one simple score.

Built from: wins/losses/ties + strength of schedule + goal differential + recent form.

Strength of Schedule

Measures how difficult a team’s opponents have been. A strong record against tougher opponents should mean more than the same record against weaker competition.

Higher SOS = tougher opponents faced.

Form Index

A short-term performance signal based on the last five games. This shows who is playing well right now, not just who has the best full-season record.

Example: W-W-L-W-W means strong recent momentum.

Goal Impact

Looks at scoring dominance using goals for versus goals against. Winning 6–1 tells a different story than winning 3–2.

Goal Impact = goals for minus goals against, adjusted by games played.

Tier Movement

The visual trend layer for RinkWire rankings.

Game Intelligence

Matchup Rating

Predicts how competitive a game should be based on team strength, form, and head-to-head context when available.

Game Quality Score

Ranks games by importance, competitiveness, and watchability. This helps surface the best games instead of listing everything equally.

Rivalry Tag

Highlights meaningful matchups, including local rivals, top-ranked clashes, and games that feel like they could shape the standings.

Rink Activity

Shows where the action is happening with LIVE, heavy, or light game volume.
