Privacy Policy

RinkWire is an independent California youth hockey data layer. This page explains what information we display, where it comes from, what little we collect from visitors, and how to get information corrected or removed. The short version: we republish sports facts the leagues already publish, the website needs no account, the app needs an account and a subscription and asks only for an email address, we never sell personal data, and a parent's removal request is honored without questions.

What we display

RinkWire aggregates publicly available game results, schedules, standings, and player statistics from sanctioned California youth hockey leagues, including SCAHA, NORCAL, CAHA, T1EHL, ADHSHL, SHSHL, LA Kings High School Hockey League, and PGHL. Player information is limited to:

First and last name as published by the league
Jersey number
Team affiliation and division
On-ice performance statistics (games played, goals, assists, points, penalty minutes; goalie save percentage and goals-against average)

We do not collect or display dates of birth, home addresses, contact information, school affiliations, photos, or any other personal identifiers.

Where the data comes from

All data is collected from publicly accessible league websites and stats pages: pages anyone can open in a browser without an account or login. We never log in to, bypass, or access any private, password-protected, or registration-only system, and we do not receive private rosters or non-public information from anyone. RinkWire is not affiliated with any of the leagues listed above. Game scores and statistics are facts; what RinkWire adds is collection, verification, and presentation.

Player and parent data removal

If you are a player, parent, or legal guardian and would like a player's information removed from RinkWire, email privacy@rinkwire.app with the player's full name and team. We honor takedown requests promptly and do not require justification. Removed players are added to a permanent suppression list so they stay removed when our data refreshes. If anything ever reappears, one email fixes it permanently.

Children's privacy

Two different things matter here, and we hold a conservative line on both.

Information about young players. RinkWire displays statistics for hockey players from 10U through high school, exactly as their leagues publish them: the same information printed in box scores for a century. We add nothing: no birthdates, no photos, no schools, no contact details, no locations beyond the rink a public schedule already names. And any parent can remove their child entirely, permanently, with one email.

Information from young users. Federal law (COPPA) governs collecting personal information from children under 13 online. RinkWire is directed at parents, coaches, and fans, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, child or adult. The website needs no account at all. The app does, and app accounts are for people 13 or older: creating one asks for a date of birth on screen, which is checked at that moment and never stored. Anyone under 18 needs a parent or guardian to agree to the subscription and pay for it. There is no chat, no comments, no profiles, no photo uploads and no forms directed at children anywhere in RinkWire, and a followed player's name never leaves the device it was set on. If we are ever made aware that a child under 13 has submitted personal information to us (for example by emailing us), we will delete it.

The RinkWire app

The RinkWire app stores your preferences on your own device only: the teams, divisions, and players you choose to follow, your filter and display settings, a record of which final scores you have already seen (so the app can show you what's new), and an offline copy of scores and standings so the app keeps working inside rinks with no signal. None of this is transmitted to RinkWire or to anyone else. Following a player saves only the player's name and team, exactly as the league already publishes them, on your device.

The app requires an account and a RinkWire+ subscription. Signing in stores your email address and syncs the teams and divisions you follow across your devices, so a new phone finds them again. Followed players are not synced and never leave your device, on purpose.

Notifications, if you turn them on, may be sent while the app is closed, which requires storing the push subscription your device generates. Turning them off removes it. You can erase everything the app has stored on the device with "Delete my data" on the Profile screen, and you can remove the account itself, and everything attached to it, with "Delete my account" on the same screen.

Cookies and analytics

RinkWire uses two privacy-respecting analytics services to count page views and understand which features parents and players find useful:

Google Analytics 4: aggregated site usage (pages viewed, browser, country). Google sets first-party cookies (e.g. _ga) to count unique visitors.
Cloudflare Web Analytics: cookieless visit counting via a lightweight beacon.

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not "share" it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not share analytics data with third parties for advertising, do not run ads or behavioral tracking, and never combine analytics signals with the league data we publish. You can opt out of Google Analytics at any time with the official Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on. Because we sell and share nothing, opt-out signals like Global Privacy Control have nothing to switch off. You already have the setting they ask for.

What you give us directly

From website visitors: nothing, unless you choose to send it. Your email address and message if you contact us (kept as ordinary correspondence), and your email address if you subscribe to RinkWire Updates (stored with our newsletter provider, MailerLite, and used only to send the updates you asked for; every email includes an unsubscribe link that works immediately). Score reports sent from the app are simply emails from you to us.

If you create an app account, RinkWire stores your email address, the teams and divisions you follow, and a note of whether the account is subscribed. That is the entire list. We do not store your name, your phone number, your address, a password, or your date of birth. Players you follow are never sent to us and stay on your device, which is a deliberate choice: RinkWire holds no record connecting an adult to a named child.

If you subscribe to RinkWire+, payment is handled by Stripe, which acts as merchant of record. Stripe holds your payment details under its own privacy policy; RinkWire never sees or stores a card number. What we receive back from Stripe is limited to whether your subscription is active and an identifier linking it to your account.

If you turn on notifications, your browser or device generates a push subscription (an endpoint address and two keys) which is stored so we can send the alerts you asked for. It contains no name and is not readable as an identity. Turning notifications off in the app removes it.

How long we keep things

League results and statistics are sports records and remain available as an archive, subject always to the removal process above. Removal requests override archiving, permanently. Correspondence is kept only as long as needed to handle the matter. Newsletter addresses are kept until you unsubscribe. Account data (your email address, followed teams, and subscription status) is kept while your account exists and is deleted when you delete your account from the app's Profile screen; deletion is immediate and permanent. Push subscriptions are removed when you turn notifications off. Stripe keeps its own payment and transaction records for as long as its own policies and tax law require, independently of RinkWire. Analytics data is retained per the providers' standard aggregate retention.

Security

RinkWire is served entirely over encrypted connections (HTTPS). We follow the most effective security practice there is: not collecting sensitive data in the first place. There is no password database, because RinkWire has no passwords; signing in uses a one-time code sent to your email. There are no card numbers on RinkWire, because Stripe processes every payment and we never see or store your card details. There are no personal profiles: an account holds an email address and the teams you follow.

Your rights and choices

Regardless of where you live and regardless of whether any particular privacy statute technically applies to a service of RinkWire's size, we voluntarily honor for everyone: the right to know what we have (for visitors, typically nothing; for players, exactly what is on the page), the right to correct it (email us), and the right to delete it (the removal process above, or for app data, the app's own "Delete my data" button; the data is on your device, so deletion is entirely in your hands). We will never discriminate against anyone for exercising these rights, and exercising them is always free.

International visitors

RinkWire covers California youth hockey and is operated from and directed at the United States. If you visit from elsewhere, you understand the Services are hosted and provided under U.S. law. The rights described above are available to you too.

Changes to this policy

If our practices change (for example, if we ever add optional accounts or push notifications), this policy will be updated before the change ships, and the "Last updated" date above will reflect it. We will never quietly begin collecting more than this page describes.
